The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, or Farm Bill 2.0, is currently under consideration in the House of Representatives.  As we’ve previously written, there is broad, bipartisan support for the measure.

Key agriculture groups have called for the Bill’s passage, as well as for emergency assistance for producers who are facing years of depressed prices, high input costs, weather and market volatility, and more.

As the Bill moves through the House, here’s 3 quick facts on Farm Bill 2.0.

  1.  The measure contains key provisions important for America’s farm and ranch families.

Farm Bill 2.0 builds on the key wins secured in last year’s reconciliation process that strengthened the farm safety net, expanded access to risk management for producers, increased investment in trade promotion, conservation initiatives, agricultural research, and more. Farm Bill 2.0 was advanced from Committee in a bipartisan fashion, and 149 out of 181 bills (82%!) included in Farm Bill 2.0 have bipartisan sponsors.

House Agriculture Committee Chairman, Congressman GT Thompson (R-PA) stated, “[Farm Bill 2.0’s provisions] expand investments in rural communities, bring science-backed management back to our national forests, and restore regulatory certainty in the interstate marketplace. These programs improve risk management tools for specialty crop producers, lower energy costs in rural America, and prioritize American commodities on the global stage. The new farm bill will expand producers’ access to credit, promote precision agriculture, and enhance conservation programs for working lands.”

Congressman Don Davis (D-NC), a Member of the House Agriculture Committee, stated, “Rising costs, unpredictable markets, and real uncertainty about the future are squeezing farmers, and it’s not just a farm issue. It’s a food security, economic, and community issue. That’s why I’ve been working to get key provisions from my legislation included in the Farm Bill. We must deliver real relief, strengthen rural economies, and support the people who feed our nation.”

  1.  Food Security is National Security.

Food security is national security, and Farm Bill 2.0 makes real strides in improving and enhancing key programs for America’s farm and ranch families who provide us with the safest, most abundant, and most affordable food supply in a manner unrivaled in history.

Congressman Jim Costa (D-CA) put it this way, “Food is a national security issue, and we must look at each title [of the Farm Bill] as a foundation to America’s production of food and fiber.”

The last comprehensive, multi-year Farm Bill passed was in December 2018, and, as Chairman GT Thompson (R-PA) put it, “The new challenges and opportunities our producers face require new policy, and the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 rises to meet the occasion.”

A strong, bipartisan Farm Bill 2.0 sends an important signal to America’s farm and ranch families who are facing dire circumstances.
